Padbrook Park held its first Pro-Am on its new 18 hole layout last weekend in conjunction with the west region P.G.A and 25 professionals walked the fairways of the course each with three amateurs to play a team stableford competition with two scores to count on each hole.

At the same time the Pros played their own medal competition. The winning Pro was Barry Austin from Crediton who carded a brilliant 65, setting a new course record.
The winning team was R.D Johns made up of Martin Johns, Ray Cavill and Andrew Hutchings who were joined by professional Barry Austin who scored a very impressive 92 stableford points.
Head Chef, Chester Westlake and his team of chefs at Padbrook Park served up a delicious dinner for the competitors and prizes were awarded. Following the presentation the ribbon was cut to officially celebrate the opening of the new Padbrook Park 18 hole, 6500 yards, par 72 course.
A plaque, to be permanently positioned near the first tee was unveiled by Padbrook Park member Andrew ( Tom ) Evans who won the members’ summer raffle for the privilege. All money raised from the raffle will be donated to Devon Air Ambulance.
During the speeches, Padbrook Park owners Susan and Garry Scargill praised the effort, energy and enthusiasm of Padbrook’s Golf Manager, Cary Rawlings whose ideas and vision were instrumental in the creation of the new course. Before play started Padbrook Senior members presented Cary with a commemorative plaque in recognition of his work.
